movie review of Crime on their Hands starring the Three Stooges (Moe, Larry, Shemp) – originally released December 9, 1948

In Crime on their Hands, the Three Stooges are janitors at a newspaper office — who desire to be reporters. They have their chance, when the big story of the day is the theft of the Punjab Diamond by Dapper Malone (played by Three Stooges regular Kenneth MacDonald), his moll (Three Stooges regular Christine McIntyre) and “Runty” who gets angry at Dapper.  Runty decides to get even by calling the newspaper office and snitching on Dapper. Beer Barrel Polecats

Beer Barrel Polecats (1946) starring the Three Stooges – Moe, Larry, and Curly

Beer Barrel Polecats is set during Prohibition, when purchasing beer in the U.S.A. was illegal. But it was still legal to make your own beer for your own personal use.  The Three Stooges (MoeLarry, and Curly) in Curly’s first short film made after his initial stroke proceed to do that.  And the first half of the film is quite funny, as all three of them add yeast to their batch of beer – with explosive results.  They finally manage to bottle all of their beer, and all’s well.  Until Curly tries to sell a bottle to an undercover police officer at black market prices.  And the Stooges end up going to jail.

Three Stooges short film Hold That Lion (1947) starring Moe Howard, Larry Fine, Shemp Howard, Curly Howard

Many people remember Hold That Lion as the only short film where Curly appears along with Moe, Larry and Shemp.  Technically, this is true, as Curly has a short cameo appearance as a sleeping man on a train.  But I frankly remember it for the “fight scene” in the first half of the short film with Kenneth MacDonald.  It’s a very funny Three Stooges short film in its’ own right, and well worth watching.
