Dizzy Pilots – the Three Stooges – Moe, Larry and Curly – originally released September 24, 1943

Dizzy Pilots is a very funny short film starring the Three Stooges (Moe, Larry and Curly) as the Wrong Brothers, who are trying to perfect a new airplane, “The Buzzard,” in order to avoid the draft in the fictional country of Moronica. The Stooges have 30 days to prove the superiority of their new plane, or be drafted, and so they get straight to work — with the predictable slapstick results.

Beer Barrel Polecats (1946) starring the Three Stooges – Moe, Larry, and Curly

Beer Barrel Polecats movie poster - the Three Stooges (Moe, Larry, Curly) in prison garb

Beer Barrel Polecats is set during Prohibition, when purchasing beer in the U.S.A. was illegal. But it was still legal to make your own beer for your own personal use.  The Three Stooges (MoeLarry, and Curly) in Curly’s first short film made after his initial stroke proceed to do that.  And the first half of the film is quite funny, as all three of them add yeast to their batch of beer – with explosive results.  They finally manage to bottle all of their beer, and all’s well.  Until Curly tries to sell a bottle to an undercover police officer at black market prices.  And the Stooges end up going to jail.

Three Stooges short film Monkey Businessmen starring the Three Stooges (Moe, Larry, Curly) with Kenneth MacDonald, released June 20, 1946

In Monkey Businessmen, the Three Stooges (Moe, Larry, Curly), after being fired for gross incompetence as electricians, decide that they need a vacation.  Unfortunately, they decide to visit Mallard’s rest home, a crooked enterprise that exists to bilk their clients of every last penny.  (This is Kenneth MacDonald’s first appearance in a Three Stooges short film as the con man).  The Stooges soon realize this, and attempt to escape.  But after being pursued, beaning the male “nurses” with weights, pretending to be surgeons (and nearly operating on Curly), being locked in a steam room (and escaping as Curly chases a shapely nurse, culminating in one of the funniest moments in Stooge history, they vanquish the bad guys, and cure a rich hypochondriac.  Deciding after all that, that they need a vacation! A very funny short movie, and highly recommended.
