Guns a Poppin!

Guns a Poppin! is a remake of the earlier Three Stooges short film Idiots Deluxe featuring Curly.  In Guns a Poppin!Joe Besser tries to fill the role that Curly did in the earlier film, but mostly fails.  Many Three Stooges fans do not like Joe Besser as the third stooge, and this short is as good a reason why as any.  In it, Joe lacks the physicality that is at the heart of the Three Stooges slapstick, although he’s more active here than in most of his Three Stooges shorts.

Rumpus in the Harem

Rumpus in the Harem starring Moe Howard, Larry Fine, Shemp Howard, Vernon Dent, released June 21, 1956

Rumpus in the Harem is charitably described as a remake of Malice in the Palace. It’s one of several Three Stooges short films that were made after the death of Shemp Howard. The studio had an actor, Joe Palma, filling in for Shemp, wearing a wig, being filmed from behind, etc.
