Up in Daisy’s Penthouse – A re-working of the Curly short Three Dumb Clucks. Shemp impersonates his dad who is about to marry a gold digger planning to bump him off.

Up in Daisy’s Penthouse (1953) starring the Three Stooges (Moe, Larry, Shemp), Connie Cezan

In short, there’s not a lot of significant changes from the original short with Curly. The most significant is the routine where they’re picking out Pops’ old suits to use for the wedding. It’s funny, but not dreadfully original.

Changes from Three Dumb Clucks:

  • Rather than going to a clothing store, the Stooges use Pops’ old clothes
    • Moe sliding on mothballs – :”Those moths sure lay a lot of eggs”
    • Shemp trying to clean a “spot” (actually sunshine) off a suit – same routine as in Sing a Song of Six Pants
    • Larry pulling a loose thread off Moe’s suit, unraveling it. (Hoi Polloi) routine.
    • Moe and Larry are doing a tug of war over a pair of pants, so Shemp “helpfully” cuts the pants in half, sending each of them flying.
  • At the wedding
    • Shemp’s tie flying
  • Trying to avoid being murdered
    • Shemp sliding up the bannister
  • At the conclusion, landing on Pops in wet cement, with an exaggerated nose, imitating Jimmy Durante – “Am I mortified!”

Trivia

  • Remake of “3 Dumb Clucks“, with a few stock shots.
  • Scenes of the Stooges on the flagpole are from 3 Dumb Clucks. You can hear Curly’s “woo-woo-woo”s.
  • The Minister is only an extra, photographed from the back; the character’s dialogue is actually dubbed by director Jules White.
