Review
Gents in a Jam begins with The Three Stooges (Moe, Larry, Shemp) being broke — again. In fact, they’re being evicted for back rent. But Moe talks their landlady, Mrs. McGruder (Kitty McHugh), into letting them work off their debt by renovating another apartment. Which they damage, of course. At this point, Shemp’s rich Uncle Phineas (Emil Sitka) comes to visit them. The Stooges manage to convince their landlady not to toss them out as Shemp is set to inherit a fortune.
The Stooges also have trouble with a circus strongman (Mickey Simpson) after Shemp accidentally rips off his wife’s skirt. Uncle Phineas gets in the middle of the fight, and Mrs. McGruder ends it by knocking out the strongman. It turns out that Uncle Phineas and the landlady were childhood sweethearts and he leaves with her, leaving the Stooges broken once again.
Funny movie quotes from Gents in a Jam
Larry: How come you give all the orders around here?
Moe: Because I got all the brains around here. Any objections?
Larry: Yeah! [gets slapped by Moe]
Moe: Objections overruled.
Moe: Women are romantic way down here [points to his heart]. Take Mrs. McGruder …
Shemp: You take her.
Larry: You keep her!
Mrs. McGruder: [who has been behind Moe the entire time, grabs him by the hair] You worm!
Mrs. Duggan (Danni Sue Nolan): [after Shemp has accidentally ripped off her skirt] If my husband sees me for this, all you’ll be paying for is hospital bills!
Shemp: That’s okay, I’m insured. [realizes, reacts]
Larry: [walks in] What’s going on here?
Shemp: It was an accident. This is Mrs. Duggan – her husband tears phone books in half.
Mrs. Duggan: And people!
Moe: [introducing Uncle Phineas to Larry] Meet chrome dome.
Uncle Phineas: Hello, Mr. ChromeDome.
Mrs. McGruder: [When she notices Rocky beating up Shemp in the hallway] You leave him alone!
Rocky Duggan: Oh, yeah, who says so?
Mrs. McGruder: I do!
Rocky Duggan: Beat it, lady! No dame’s going to tell me what to do.
[Mrs. McGruder smashes Rocky in the face, causing him to drop Shemp to the floor and hit the wall]
Uncle Phineas: [having been run over by the Stooges and the Duggans] All I wanted was a nice, quiet visit.
