Sappy Bullfighters (1959) starring the Three Stooges (Moe Howard, Larry Fine, Joe Besser), Greta Thyssen, George J. Lewis

The lovely Greta Thyssen helps the Three Stooges (Joe Besser, Larry Fine, Moe Howard) out with a new job, as her dog looks on in Sappy Bullfighters

Sappy Bullfighters is the final Three Stooges short film – a reworking of What’s the Matador? The short film begins with the Three Stooges  (Moe Howard, Larry Fine, Joe Besser) having been fired. Fired from their engagement in Mexico for refusing to do 10 additional shows for free. Stranded without the money needed to get back home, a fellow performer — the lovely and kind-hearted Greta (Greta Thyssen) gets them an engagement, performing their comedy act at an actual bullfight at a stadium.

However, when Greta leaves, she takes the Stooges’ suitcase — with the props for their comedy matador act — by mistake. The Stooges follow her to her dressing room and join her in a snack.  Where Joe unwittingly drinks hot sauce and “douses” it with water from a flower vase. Greta’s husband (George J. Lewis) arrives, and Joe mistakenly thinks that Greta is calling him “sweetheart,” setting up the conflict.

Pies and Guys - reading lesson for the Three Stooges, once Moe turns his book right-side up

Pies and Guys

Pies and Guys (1958) starring Moe Howard, Larry Fine, Joe Besser

Pies and Guys - the Three Stooges (Larry Fine, Moe Howard, Joe Besser)

Pies and Guys starring the Three Stooges (Moe Howard, Larry Fine, Joe Besser) is a shot by shot remake of Half-Wits Holiday (Moe, Larry, Curly). Which, in turn, was a remake of Hoi Polloi (Moe, Larry, Curly). The basic plot in all three remains the same. The Three Stooges are inept workers, who become the object of a bet between two professors on whether nature or nurture define a person. Professor Quackenbush (Milton Frome) tries to train the Stooges into becoming gentlemen. With the aid of his beautiful daughter Lulu (Greta Thyssen). A stressful process.

Quiz Whizz – The Three Stooges – Moe Howard, Larry Fine, Joe Besser – 1958

Quiz Whizz - Moe Howard is on the phone worried about Joe Besser, while Joe's making a sandwichQuiz Whizz - Emil Sitka as the IRS agent who's come to collect from the Three StoogesJoe Besser is doubtless the least popular “Third Stooge” with some of his Three Stooges short films being better than others.  Quiz Whiz is one of those.  The basic story is that Joe has won $15,000 on a quiz program.  All of the questions were about food, Joe’s favorite subject.  However, Joe hasn’t been seen since, and Moe and Larry are fearing the worst.  While Moe is on the phone to the police, describing Joe, Joe walks in and begins making a Dagwood-style sandwich, with Moe looking at Joe as he describes him, with lines such as “Hair color? (looks at Joe’s bald head) Skin!” Eventually, Moe realizes that Joe is back, and the boys soon learn that Joe has lost all of his winnings to con artists. To add insult to injury, and IRS agent (played by Stooges regular Emil Sitka) appears at the door, demanding the government’s share of Joe’s winning — $5,900 — which they don’t have!Read More »Quiz Whizz
